Country Cousins Tourist Information

Pemberton

Pemberton is well known as the centre of the beautiful towering Karri forests of the South West, but it is home also to many other attractions.

Don't miss the Pemberton TramwayOn Railway Crescent is the train station, offering tram tour twice a day into the forest, along the Warren River to the Cascades, with photo stops and wildflower viewing along the way. The steam train runs on weekends and school holidays between Easter and November 9th.

The CascadesThe Gold’n’Grape Gallery is worth a visit to view the fine woodwork, art and Jonathon the resident jeweller has many items on display. Light lunches, local wine tasting and sales, delicious coffee and cakes are also available.

The Fine Wood Craft Gallery should not be missed by anyone who appreciates the finer details of furniture making and timber sculpture. There are also ceramics, paintings, glassware and many more items for sale. Next door is a coffee shop with delicious cakes.

Visit also other local art and craft galleries, such as Rosebank Crafts and Peter Kovacsy Studio, the local wineries, and the Lavender and Berry Farm.  Four wheel drive tours will show you places you will remember always.

Just a short drive will take you to the Gloucester National Park where you can climb the famous Gloucester Tree, or you can tackle instead (as well?) the Diamond Tree or Bicentennial Tree.

Beedelup FallsCool rivers flow amongst the giant trees and the Warren River, its tributaries and other free flowing streams offer some of the best trout fishing in the state. Warren National Park Heartbreak Trail is a one way drive through the forest, where camping and picnic spots have been created along the Warren River. Enjoy marron and trout fishing in season (permit required). Visit Beedelup Falls, Yeargerup Lake and Dunes, Big Brook Dam and arboretum, and the Cascades - beauty which will lift your spirits.

Climb the Gloucester Tree - if you dareThe Pemberton Visitor Centre is full of displays and information about local attractions, has local products for sale, and houses a museum with photos and memorabilia of Pemberton's early days.

Take a trip to Northcliffe, where the Visitor Centre also has many treasures, one of which is an impressive rock collection.  25 km south of Northcliffe is Windy Harbour, a small holiday settlement with beaches accessible by four wheel drive vehicle offering many good fishing spots. For the view you can walk or drive to the lighthouse. Walkways with resting spots follow the cliff face and offer occasional glimpses of migrating whales.  Take a little detour into the Shannon National Park.

If you are feeling energetic, Pemberton is a hiker's paradise. The renowned Bibbulmun Track passes nearby and walkers can choose comfortable overnight accommodation with transport to and from the track.

For an unforgettable experience, don't miss our forest wildflowers, at their best between September and November each year.  Bird watching is excellent year round.

Pemberton has restaurants and accommodation to suit all tastes and budgets and is ideally located as a weekend getaway from Perth or as a stopover en route to the south coast.

We hope you will give us the opportunity to welcome you to our beautiful and peaceful corner of paradise.
